Elaine Massaro, MS, RN, CDE, 2010 AADE Educator of the Year, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Clinical Research Coordinator at Northwestern University. She has been involved in a number of trials, including managing her site for the international multi-site Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation in Type 2 Diabetes (BARI 2D) trial 1. Massaro brings a unique perspective to diabetes, as her initial clinical experience was in cardiovascular nursing, intensive care, and the cardiac care unit (CCU), allowing her to better synthesize experience and expertise in two closely related fields.
