Increased sitting during the day increases risk for type 2 diabetes as well as other cardiovascular diseases….

Recent studies showed that reducing sitting time during the day can reduce risk for diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases. Also, sitting time is independent of exercising time. With that being said, one cannot compensate for sitting time by exercising more. Typically, patients are recommended to exercise at least 150 minutes per week to avoid obesity and diabetes. According to researchers, reducing sitting time 90 minutes per day can also provide important health benefits. The findings indicate that time spent sitting significantly relates to higher blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and other heart and diabetes risk factors regardless of time spent exercising and the amount of body fat.
