More active type 1 diabetes patients are at a greater risk for hypoglycemia and therefore may consume an increased amount of carbohydrates….

Improved glycemic levels in more physically active adults can help reduce their individual risk of hypoglycemia.

In the cross sectional study adults were required to record their own energy input and expenditure. It was noted that self-reporting can lead to reporting errors and misreporting.

The results showed that the more active type 1 diabetes patients consumed more calories from carbohydrates. This suggests that more active people with diabetes may prioritize carbohydrates as an energy source. This can cause higher glucose levels while the patients are trying to control their diabetes without going hypoglycemic.
