Men with diabetes develop ED 10 to 15 years earlier than men without diabetes….

A new study may explain the association between cardiovascular health, diabetes, and erectile issues. Men younger than 40 years who were impotent were also found to have higher systolic blood pressure and insulin resistance issues than men who did not have erectile dysfunction (ED).

Researchers have found that the problem with ED begins with insulin resistance. A series of events links diabetes with ED. Diabetes has an adverse effect on arteries increasing the risk for high blood pressure which in turn has a damaging outcome on cardiovascular health. And poor cardiovascular health is the number one reason that men get ED, says Mark Moyard, M.D., University of Michigan Medical Center.

Although there is a strong association between diabetes and ED, it is not impossible to prevent ED from developing in men who have diabetes. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise can help to reduce the effects of diabetes on impotence. Men can reduce the risk of diabetes by 58% just by reducing their weight by 7% in combination with walking for 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week.
