Dace L. Trence, MD, FACE received her MD degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. She completed an internal medicine residency through Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and, subsequently, returned to the University of Minnesota for Endocrine Fellowship. Dr. Trence started practice with Group Health, Inc, in Minnesota, becoming Chief of Endocrinology, initiating several programs, including a Lipids Clinic, Diabetes Foot Care Clinic, and a Diabetes and Pregnancy Clinic. After moving to Seattle to practice at Group Health of Puget Sound, becoming Chief of Endocrinology, then Chief of Medical Subspecialties, she then joined the faculty at the University of Washington. Currently she is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Director of the Diabetes Care Center and Director of the Endocrine Fellowship Program at the University of Washington.
Dr. Trence is Chair of the AACE’s Publications Committee, Scientific Nutrition Committee, ACE’s Empower Committee, and APDEM/AACE Task Force. She has also served on AACE’s Clinical Practice Guidelines, Diabetes Care Guidelines, Nominating, and Awards Committees, and Socio-economics committees, and ACE’s FACE committee. She is a Trustee of the American College of Endocrinology. Dr. Trence is currently on the editorial board of ENDOTEXT and has had articles published in JCEM, JAMA and Endocrine Practice, as well as chapters in several texts, and has co-authored a book Optimizing Diabetes Care for the Practitioner. She continues to be editor of AACE’s Empower magazine.
