Often we look to see who the authors are in order to validate the guidelines. This week we have the new consensus statement from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), on the use of physical activity for the management of type 2 diabetes.

The new consensus statement from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), co-chaired by DIC Advisory Board member and this issue’s Featured Writer Dr. Sheri Colberg, is an update from the 2010 joint ACSM/American Diabetes Association position statement on physical activity/exercise for individuals with type 2 diabetes.

I recently co-chaired a new consensus statement from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) that is an update from the 2010 joint ACSM/American Diabetes Association position statement on physical activity/exercise for individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). A lot more research has been conducted in the ensuing decade since the joint position statement was published, and this new consensus statement summarizes the current evidence.
New study findings reveal the hepatocyte known as follistatin is linked to hyperglycemia when found at elevated levels.
Patients who suffer from mild to extreme mental health stress are less likely to participate in self-care behavior for diabetes.
Diabetes or prediabetes may put a patient at higher risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
Like medication, exercise can be dosed based on the characteristics of the individual to increase its benefits and reduce side effects, substantially affecting glycemic control.
The impact of impaired healing in those with diabetes mellitus (DM) contributes to their higher risk of developing periodontitis, leading to tooth loss (TL).
