Diabetes Test Strips Recalled

Test strips used with the Contour TS Blood Glucose Meter produced readings 5% to 17% higher than actual levels and are being recalled, manufacturer Bayer Diabetes Care announced.

The recalled strips are from lots designated with a WK followed by 7D, 7E, 7F, or 7G and then another series of numbers and letters. The lot numbers are found on the bottom of the box and the side of the bottle.

The strips were packaged in bottles of 10, 25, and 50 and in glucose meter kits with the product code 1802 and 1802N. The Contour TS meter itself is not affected by the recall.

According to a company news release, these strips were produced on new manufacturing equipment. The root cause of the problem has been identified and corrected, and additional quality control measures have been implemented to prevent recurrence.

Marketed predominately via mail-order channels in the United States, the test strips are also available in France, Austria, Turkey, Korea, and Mexico.
