Editor’s Note, Insulin Special Edition, September 2014

This month’s edition of the Insulin Practice series is full of great information about new insulins that we will be able to use in the near future. These products will make it easier for all of us to develop better treatment plans for our patients, and mixing the old with the new will even further enhance our success. However, recent developments of other classes of diabetes drugs has at times caused a postponement of insulin initiation. Our feature presentation, Early Use of Insulin to Improve Beta Cell Preservation, looks at the reasons why insulin is such a good tool, and why there may be patients who need to be started on insulin before all other options are exhausted.
