Long term study shows Welchol delivers continued HbA1c control while lowering LDL levels….

This retrospective cohort study determined the effect of colesevelam HCL initiation and A1C level in patients with type 2 diabetes regardless of other anti-diabetic medication use.

The cohort study included 1,747 participants from GE Centricity electronic medical records data with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) taking colesevelam HCL during 2000 – 2011. After 52 weeks endpoints, the results showed a 0.44% to 0.47% drop in HbA1C level in participants.

In conclusion, the outcome of this retrospective cohort study has shown similar effectiveness of colesevelam with reported randomized controlled trials. It supports the beneficial use of colesevelam for managing T2DM in real world patients.
