Randomized, controlled phase III clinical data demonstrate buccal insulin’s effectiveness and non-inferiority when compared to injected human insulin. The study was conducted at 14 sites in India with 209 type 2 patients between 18 and 75 years of age with at least one year of use of oral anti-diabetes medications; subjects were randomized to receive either buccal insulin spray or injected human regular insulin before each major meal as an add-on to the patient’s current oral hypoglycemic agent.
