Vitamin D supplementation increased nutrient levels in patients with prediabetes in a recent study but patients in the supplement arm did not show better insulin sensitivity or beta cell function than those in the placebo cohort, researchers said. In a randomized controlled trial that showed vitamin D levels indeed rose in supplemented patients, there were no significant differences on insulin sensitivity or beta cell function whether patients had the vitamin or placebo.
