Woman, 86 years of age, very active, history of type 2 diabetes, but does not check glucose or even admit she has diabetes. She has refused to take any medications at all for the last 20+ years I’ve known her. Had gastroenteritis for 3 days. Even when well, she does not drink anything but coffee, and sometimes sugar-sweetened beverages, but only a few ounces of that at a time.

Blood pressure recommendations have been swinging back and forth for a number of decades.

Female, 76 years of age, type 2 diabetes, well managed, A1C 6%, on metformin 500mg daily. Patient also has well-managed hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and osteoporosis. She lives alone. Wants tighter diabetes control. Was having hypoglycemia when on 500mg twice daily. Requests, almost begs me, to increase her medication. States she’s afraid she’s going to have kidney problems.
