Screening May Not Improve Heart Outcomes in Diabetes

Middle-aged and older adults who were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes through office screening had a worse baseline risk profile than those whose type 2 diabetes was diagnosed based on clinical signs and symptoms, a study indicated. Researchers found that the risks of stroke, heart attack or cardiovascular death at more than seven years were not significantly different between the two groups. See this week’s Item #4.
