This year, we decided that you should have the knowledge to make your own choices, so we asked our Diabetes Fitness Guru, Dr. Sheri Colberg, to delve into the science of reversing diabetes and provide real proven metabolic research on the value of food choices and physical activity. She is going to share the physiological basis to help your patients.

I recently was asked about the latest research on the reversal of type 2 diabetes—both bariatric and non-bariatric solutions—and it made me wonder about the mechanisms of this possibility and what role being active may play in it. Each new year always brings a whole host of resolutions that people make focused on losing weight, getting more fit, and becoming healthier. Especially with all the COVID-related pounds I have heard about people gaining, I expect these resolutions to be out in full force at the start of 2022. But how effective will they be long-term, and is the reversal of type 2 diabetes a realistic resolution to make?
Cost-effectiveness of SGLT2 Inhibitors in Patients with Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction
Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors were created to treat diabetes, but noted to ameliorate cardiovascular events.
Health plans with high deductibles require thousands of dollars out-of-pocket and have a known association with delays in treatment; a repeated cross-sectional study found they are also associated with medication non-adherence.
The case for why an SGLT2 inhibitor or GLP-1 receptor agonist should be initiated early in diabetes treatment, regardless of whether the patient is on insulin therapy.
