Letter from the Editor #676

May 9, 2013

This past week we had our PharmD candidate, Lauren Self, scour the information from the AACE meeting in Phoenix, in order to prepare the best articles for you to review.

The new AACE guidelines that Dr. Alan Garber delivered during the meeting focused on a tailored approach with increased use on newer therapies. You will want to read this article to see what he has to say about incretins and cancer and the value of bromocriptine as a second line therapy after metformin.

Dr. Aaron Vinik brought data on a new simple non-invasive test that does a superior job diagnosing diabetic neuropathy by measuring sweat. While Dr. Ralph A DeFronzo made a case for treating patients with impaired glucose tolerance to prevent or delay conversion to type 2 diabetes

Topics: Meet Charlie O’Connell, a person with type 1 who has devoted his life to helping others achieve their fitness goals; Chef Michel Nischan serves up a tasty alternative to white semolina flour that lets you have your noodles and eat them, too, without spiking that sugar count; Jim Turner stars in his very own Jim Turner’s Diabetes Theatre; Joy Pape RN, CDE answers your diabetes questions from the dLife mail.
