When I looked back over the past 10 weeks of articles we have shared with you, I was amazed by the number of times we had information on the SGLT2 inhibitors in one of the editions. It is amazing how this class of drugs has gone from a third line treatment for diabetes to a do-all product for multiple diseases. Two of the most published uses are for CV and renal complications and the reduction in risk in all patients. This week our two interns, Aleksandra Kusic, PharmD Candidate, Florida A&M University, and Elmoataz Elmamou, PharmD Candidate, 2022, South College School of Pharmacy, look at the use of these medications to reduce arrhythmias in patients with pacemakers, and why these drugs can make a difference in patients with kidney disease, even if they don’t have diabetes.
