Editor’s Note: Diabetic Eye Disease and What We Think We See

Lately I have been doing a lot of education classes for patients and when it comes to complications of diabetes, patients often want to focus (no pun intended) on vision problems. During my discussions it appears that the fear of losing the ability to drive worries them a lot, and they feel like their clinician never gives them enough information. We wanted to change that so for the next few weeks we are going to feature a series of Homerun Slides on the Diagnosis & Management of Diabetic Eye Disease that you can use to educate yourself and your colleagues.

While we are on the subject of vision, this week’s Disaster Averted speaks to what we sometimes think we see and how that could be deadly for a patient. Our Case Study looks at how we need to offer special help to our elderly patients, and look for solutions that would not normally be needed in others.
