I met a patient last Wednesday who had just turned 74 and has been living with type 1 diabetes for over 35 years. He was in fantastic physical condition. However, he had been referred to me because his glucose levels were becoming erratic. We went over his insulin use and readings, and there was no doubt his problem had to do with his arbitrary use of mealtime insulin and the "dawn effect." I got out my copy of this week’s Clinical Text and the answer was right there. By the way, this text and the Homerun Slides use mmol/L rather than mg/dl.
Our Homerun Slides are right on target with more information on SGLT-2 inhibitors which is great timing considering the approval of Jardiance, and the acceptance of this type of medication on to more PDP plans. Our Diabetes Epidemic fact sheet looks at how the most economically successful countries in Northern Europe have not been the best when it comes to diabetes care. Our Mastery In Minutes video includes more on the future of CGM and how reimbursement for this technology has increased over the last decade.
