Editor’s Note, DCMS #176: Setting Targets Too High

Feb 17, 2014

Most of us who treat diabetes patients know that the hardest part is getting patients to make positive changes. We often set the targets so high that patients just give up. If you take a careful look at our Homerun Slides from Dr. Stanley Schwartz, you will see how small negative changes over time in what our patients choose to do every day can make positive change very difficult, and why we need to try a little harder. You can also hear Dr. Schwartz talk more about exercise in our Mastery In Minutes video this week.

Our Clinical Text from Joslin Diabetes Center gives you more information on why diabetes has to be treated as a multicomponent disease not just an A1c issue and how to organize a treatment protocol that works, while our Diabetes Disaster demonstrates why insulin pump education is so important.
