About three quarters of our diabetes patients have dyslipidemia and elevated triglycerides, along with high insulin resistance and an increased risk of CAD. Our Clinical Text from Joslin looks at this problem and also answers the question of whether improving glucose control can impact lipid control.
Many of the dyslipidemic patients mentioned above also exhibit high postprandial readings irregardless of fasting glucose regulation and often times an A1c does not give an accurate picture of 24 hour glucose control. Over the next few months we will be sharing information in our Homerun Slides on how these post meal excursions can impact your patients’ health, and how you can properly evaluate these incidents and possibly reduce their risk.
Our Diabetes Disaster discusses a potential problem that can occur when we forget to allow patients or caregivers to demonstrate their ability to follow our instructions and this week’s Mastery In Minutes video features Dr. James Thrasher who discusses the clinical trial he led and how patients’ nutrition and education were included in that study.
