According to a three year study, more people are using fitness trackers, but the devices are most effective as part of an employee wellness program that includes incentives linked to a healthy lifestyle. In the study, people who had not participated in fitness activities prior to using a fitness tracker reduced their health risk factors by 13% and those who had been involved in fitness activities saw a 22% reduction. Researchers noted that the data shows that, when incorporated as part of a broader structured program, there was a measurable change in behavior. Those using devices when paired with incentives were more likely to reduce the prevalence of key risks such as BMI and cholesterol levels. The Vitality Group, April 2014
