Patients with High Blood Pressure, Cholesterol Not Treated Effectively

CDC says most patients with high cholesterol or blood pressure have access to low-cost, effective treatment but don’t take advantage of it. Two out of three U.S. adults with high cholesterol and half of those with high blood pressure are not receiving effective treatment, according to a report in CDC Vital Signs. CDC noted that the vast majority (80%) of adult patients with uncontrolled high cholesterol or blood pressure have private or public health insurance. According to the report, characteristics associated with the lowest rates of blood pressure and cholesterol control included no health insurance, no usual source of medical care, or income below the poverty level.
