We are all familiar with the triad of diseases expected in diabetes patients. As soon as someone is diagnosed, we start to worry about cardiovascular and renal problems. In addition, we often swing our prescribing for these patients to the SGLT-2 inhibitors, as they have proven to be both cardio and renal protective. But if these diabetes drugs can help with hypertension, then is it possible that hypertensive drugs like ACE’s and ARB’s can help with diabetes control or prevention?

Our Creighton University, School of Pharmacy and Health Professions intern and PharmD candidate, Kevin Suarez, has found some retrospective studies looking at the idea of using ACE’s and ARB’s to prevent diabetes.
