When my wife was first diagnosed with diabetes, I wanted to start insulin on the first day. My thinking was to save pancreatic function for as long as possible. This turned out to be good in the long run as she was later diagnosed with LADA and is now on an insulin pump. It seems that anything we can do to try to slow the destruction of the Beta Cells would be a positive thing, and this week our intern Emma Kammerer, L|E|C|O|M Bradenton School of Pharmacy, has a feature on the use of a humanized anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody to improve and sustain beta cell function.
