Corneal Nerve Fiber Loss May Predict Diabetic Neuropathy

New data presented at the World Diabetes Congress showed type 1 diabetes patients who developed diabetic neuropathy had significantly lower corneal nerve fiber length at baseline than those who did not develop the condition during a three-year follow-up period. Evaluating corneal nerve fiber length may be a useful means to predict neuropathy in patients. The 3-year analysis included data from 64 participants without baseline neuropathy.
