Experts Design Tiny Beads to Monitor Blood Sugar: Minimally invasive glucose sensors could be fabricated using the beads for people who need to continuously monitor their blood glucose levels. When implanted, the glowing, fluorescent beads can detect blood sugar levels.. Researchers at the University of Tokyo’s Life Bio Electromechanical Autonomous Nano Systems Center in Japan found that the intensity of the glow from the beads closely mirrored sugar levels measured directly from blood samples. “Because the fluorescent micro beads do not require external links or power sources to provide a readout, they could be used to fabricate minimally invasive glucose sensors for people who need to continuously monitor their blood glucose levels,” they wrote.
