For many years the Holy Grail of diabetes therapy has been oral insulin. The thought process has been: if patient did not have to inject, they would be happy to use insulin multiple times a day. While we don’t seem that close to oral insulin, we do have an opportunity to convert a very popular class of drugs from injectable to oral.

Now that Novo Nordisk have submitted an application to the FDA for oral semaglutide, we will see if patients really prefer oral over injectable. One thing we know for sure: it is a lot harder to meet the requirements for taking the oral than injecting.

This week our University of South Florida PharmD Candidate Adam Chalela has an article looking at the one thing that might get patients to jump through the oral hoops to use the medication. Click here to learn more.
