Since there has been an explosion in the number of television shows available from sources such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and the like, there has been a natural progression to feature older, and less physically fit performers than 20-30 years ago. Shows like Grace and Frankie feature older actors who are trying to stay in the best health possible.
Many of these shows will include activity and trips to the gym as part of their lifestyle. Does this type of activeness work off the stage as well?
This week our new intern Adam Chalela, BS, Doctor of Pharmacy Candidate from the USF College of Pharmacy, has prepared an interesting article on the benefits of building muscular strength and the prevention of diabetes. You may just be surprised by what these activities can do!

Newsflash: FDA Issues Warning About Unauthorized Diabetes Devices
Patients could be using diabetes management devices that haven’t been authorized for sale in the U.S., the FDA warned clinicians on Friday. These include some insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and automated insulin dosing systems. Patients may be using unauthorized devices alone or may be combining devices that aren’t meant to be used together, which could lead to incorrect glucose measurements and unsafe insulin dosing. The warning was spurred by the following reported case: A patient required medical intervention for an insulin overdose after an unauthorized continuous glucose monitoring system (that included an FDA-authorized glucose sensor and an unauthorized algorithm) potentially sent incorrectly high glucose measurements to an unauthorized automated insulin dosing system. The FDA urges clinicians to report adverse events associated with such devices to its MedWatch program. More Information: MedWatch adverse event reporting program
