A couple of weeks ago we were starting an in depth clinical look at Metabolomics.

In part one we started getting into the definitions of the science and the effects this has on insulin resistance and and diabetes.

Part two added more information, and now in part three we start to look at the prospective studies that have led us to look for all possible perturbations of our metabolic systems.

I can tell you that this week’s installment is not a quick read, as there is so much information in the excerpt you are likely to have to read it three or four times.

When it comes to metformin, when appropriate, I recommend the extended release version. Last week my patient, female, 56 years of age, type 2 diabetes, visited. A1C was elevated, and she gained 5 pounds. She had been on metformin ER for the last 6 months and doing well. She said she recently noticed a bean-looking/pill-looking thing in her stools that seemed to be related to her metformin.
