23andMe: I am sure you have seen the commercials on TV. This is a genetic test that you can get done to learn your ancestry: you simply spit into a tube, mail it away, and presto change-o, all the years of thinking you were from Italy can be erased in a moment. This is a basic example of how our knowledge of the human genome and all the variants and mutations can be used to treat many diseases. This week our Homerun Slides look at how we can identify the variant of diabetes with these types of tests, and maybe customize our therapies.
