Editor’s Note, SGLT-2 Inhibitors Special Edition, May 2015

Sometimes the early adopters receive a little scorn from their colleagues for "jumping on the bandwagon" too early. However it seems that usually sooner or later everyone else comes over to their way of thinking and the "experimental" becomes the norm. A good example of this is the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in combination with other medications. Our own board member, Dr. Stanley Schwartz, has liked this class from the start and has been on the forefront of using these drugs with almost every class of diabetes drugs. This month’s newsletter focuses on using SGLT-2 inhibitors with multiple classes and how these combinations have a highly beneficial effect.

One of the things that Stanley does is to let his patients know what to expect from medications both in terms of effect and side effects. This month we are sharing an experience that one of our readers had when a patient encountered one of the potential side effects of an SGLT-2 inhibitor and how the clinician and patient handled the situation.
