A study of 509 type 2 diabetes patients found that lorcaserin was more effective than diet and exercise alone in reducing A1C levels regardless of whether the patients lost weight. The patients, randomly assigned to either lorcaserin or placebo along with diet and exercise, had A1c levels between 7% and 10%, as well as similar fasting plasma glucose levels. The researchers defined responders as patients who achieved the primary endpoint of weight loss of at least 5% at 52 weeks of treatment.
