Patients with heart disease or diabetes were more likely than those without the conditions to remain on statin therapy, according to a study. Among patients without heart disease or diabetes, those who were most likely to continue taking statins were overweight/obese or former smokers. The researchers also found that heavy drinkers were much less likely to keep taking statins than nondrinkers. Canadian Medical Association Journal June 2014
