If you have been a little behind on reading your emails you might not yet have seen the special edition that we sent out on the new SGLT2-Inhibitors now that the first in class drug has been approved for sale in the US.
Since we first put this together I have had the chance to speak to some thought leaders who seem very excited about the idea of removing glucose from the body. In a class I taught Friday morning I asked my patients if they would be interested in a drug that helps them pee off excess glucose. The overwhelming answer was yes. When I asked them if they would risk an increased chance of urinary tract infections, most of them told me they would simply drink more water.
One of the patients who was there for the second time, asked if this might help him lose weight since he would not store as much glucose, while another patient wanted to know if he already took a diuretic, could he take canagliflozin?Be sure to check out our special features so you can find out the answers to their questions.
