Last week we had an item about the water consumption and glucose levels and there was a tip on how to get your patients to drink more. Now there is a study in this month’s International Journal of Obesity that confirms that drinking ice cold water increases metabolism and burns more calories. Speaking of burning calories there are a group of type 1 diabetes patients who are going to be burning a lot. Team Type 1-SANOFI is running across America from California to New York in time for world diabetes day on November 14th. These ten runners will relay 24 hours a day to get there in time. You can follow their progress by going to https://www.runners-crew.com/ and you can learn more about Team Type 1-SANOFI by clicking here.

Another week of politics and another shift in policy. Last week we reported on the probability that the Federal Government would rescind totally or partially the SGR reductions in payments that primary care physicians will receive. This week the news is that the decrease will be 27.5%. This does not bode well with Glen Stream, MD, president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, who said that the 27.4% reduction “poses a serious threat to the financial viability of physician practices.” He cited a survey showing that even a 25% cut would put nearly 13% of family physicians at risk of shutting their doors and would force many more physicians to no longer take Medicare Patients.
