Many times I get a call from a colleague asking about discarding insulin. Typically the one they ask about is Glargine. As most of you know the vial advises patients to discard the vial and remaining insulin 28 days after opening; however, due to the cost, many of our patients end up using the vial longer and sometimes problems can develop. This week’s Diabetes Disaster Averted looks at how patients can be affected by a decrease in potency of insulin as it ages and our contributor’s search for the correct answers.

The Clinical Case Study looks at the problem of polypharmacy, age and diabetes management, and our Homerun Slides focus in on the positive effects of GLP enhancing medications.
