Diabetes In Control.com  Issue #165

What is the most important information on a food label?

1. Fat
2. Calories
3. Protein
4. Carbohydrates
5. Portion Size
6. Sugars
7. Salt

Portion Size: To often our patients base portion size on their consumption of a food product. They for instance, assume that a can of tomato soup is 1 portion when it is actually 2.5. This then means they are consuming 50 carbs but only think they have eaten 20. Understanding how many portions or servings are in the container and then knowing how many calories, protein, carbs and fat is in each serving, will allow a person to make intelligent choices to improve their health.
