There
is a lot of information that can be helpful to educate patients with
diabetes. It is hard
sometimes to review and order materials only to find out
that it is not appropriate for your patients.
So, we at Diabetes In Control will be reviewing new materials
that will usually be free of charge and let you know how you can
obtain them.
This
week we are glad to share a new educational piece that is very well
done and can be a great help in educating patients with diabetes.
The
Heart of Diabetes: Understanding Insulin Resistance
is a national education and awareness campaign targeting people with
type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and related cardiovascular
risks. The American Heart Association developed this multi-faceted
program to help control cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetes
patients and bring about a greater understanding of insulin
resistance.
“Getting
to the Heart of Diabetes”
is a guide to understanding CVD, diabetes and insulin
resistance. This
is a small guide with 4 chapters, About Diabetes, Insulin
Resistance, Controlling Diabetes and Warning Signs for heart attacks
and strokes. After
reading the booklet, patients can take the next step by putting
their knowledge into action. As
part of the program patients receive the following free of
charge………….
a.
Heart of Diabetes Journal to track their progress in managing
their diabetes and reducing their risk for cardiovascular disease;
b.
12-month subscription to Diabetes Positive magazine; and
c.
Incentives throughout the year to help them stay motivated.
Sponsored
by the AHA and ADA.
