The Yearly Cost for a Patient with Diabetes Complications is $30,000

The Yearly Cost for a Patient with Diabetes Complications is $30,000: According to UnitedHealthcare studies, the average annual cost for treating diabetes patients and pre-diabetes patients is: $5,000 for pre-diabetes patients; $12,000 for undiagnosed people with diabetes; $10,000 for a diabetes patient without complications; and $30,000 for a diabetes patient with complications.  Additionally, UnitedHealthcare found that its large-employer customers pay on average a staggering 13 times more per year in health care costs for an employee with diabetes than for a “healthy” employee. That comes out to $22,512 a year, compared with $1,721. Further, the American Diabetes Association has concluded that one out of every five health care dollars is spent caring for someone diagnosed with diabetes, while one in 10 health care dollars is attributed directly to diabetes.
