The Staggering Cost of Diabetes

According to the ADA, total annual costs associated with diagnosed diabetes cases increased by 41% between 2007 and 2012, and the total estimated cost for care of those in the U.S. with diagnosed diabetes in 2012 was $245 billion. People diagnosed with diabetes spend about $13,700 per year on medical expenses, $7,900 of which is directly attributable to diabetes. These figures are approximately 2.3 times higher than medical expenses would be for a non-diabetic.
