Survey on Physical Fitness Knowledge Is Poor

Aug 19, 2015

A survey of more than 1,000 people found that almost 75% did not know that losing one pound of fat meant burning 3,500 calories. Only 13% knew weight training does not cause women to bulk up like men, 67% knew resting heart rate was an indicator of aerobic fitness and only 39% grasped that an egg is a healthy source of protein. The survey by fitness equipment company Nautilus showed adults ages 18 to 24 had the highest scores and those ages 65 and older had the lowest scores. Despite an explosion of fitness advice from TV shows, blogs, books and online experts, a basic knowledge of health and exercise still eludes most Americans, according to a poll. — Reuters 8-17-2015
