Sugary Drinks Blamed for 184,000 Deaths

According to a study, 133,000 of the 184,000 deaths blamed on the consumption of sugary drinks were related to diabetes. Researchers found that Mexico had the highest mortality rate from sugary drinks, with an estimated 405 deaths per one million adults, followed by the U.S. with an estimated 125 deaths per one million adults. Sugar-sweetened beverages are defined as sugar-sweetened sodas, fruit drinks, sports/energy drinks, sweetened iced teas, or homemade sugary drinks, such as frescas, that contained at least 50 kcal per 8-oz serving; 100% fruit juice was excluded.
