Serving of Yogurt Reduces Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

When researchers studied the reduction of type 2 risk after consumption of various dairy products, yogurt was the only one to yield a result. “It’s not a huge effect,” said Dr. Frank Hu from Harvard School of Public Health, “about an 18% reduction in risk.” Eighteen percent is pretty significant when you consider researchers found no reduction at all from the other types of dairy. Eating yogurt was found to lower depression, lower blood pressure and protect pregnant women and children against heavy metal poisoning. Hu told Forbes, “One hypothesis is that the probiotics in yogurt may help to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce inflammation.” — BMC Medicine Feb. 2015
