Pharmacists Can Play a Major Role in Diabetes Care

Researchers reviewed 17 assessments of interventions by pharmacists acting as part of a team or alone. They found that pharmacists, with their accessibility and medication expertise, can make a positive contribution to outcomes of type 2 diabetes patients, reporting thatpharmacists’ interventions can help boost BG control and that pharmaceutical care may be associated with improvements in quality of life for such patients. The authors write, "The improvement in diabetes control achieved by the pharmacists’ interventions are likely to translate into future cost savings to the health care system by delaying and reducing diabetes-related complications."
