Pengueeni Device Reduces Pain and Anxiety for Kids
The Pengueeni device, which vibrates and can be used with standard lancing equipment and blood test strips, was a winner at the Innov8 for Health Challenge and Idea Expo. A penguin-shaped device that’s small enough to fit in the palm of a hand helps children with diabetes monitor their blood sugar levels. The prototype is about 3 inches tall and is designed to vibrate in a way that could reduce the pain of pricking the skin with a lance to draw blood. In addition, the comforting shape of an animal that’s popular with kids could reduce their anxiety.
