Parental Diabetes May Predict Glycemic Control in Young Diabetes Patients

Children with type 2 diabetes had worse glycemic control, more hypertension and higher BMI’s when their parents had diabetes, hypertension and obesity, according to new research. Researchers looked at 699 children with type 2 diabetes and found that those whose parents had diabetes had higher baseline A1C levels and were less likely to meet glycemic control targets than children whose parents did not report having diabetes. — Diabetes Care. 2015;doi:10.2337/dc14-2393
