Recently I got to spend some time with the director of a kidney / liver transplant center in Largo, Fl. While I was touring the facility she was telling me about how they select candidates for kidney transplant, and the problems that keep people from being selected. We also talked about the time they spend on dialysis, and how many people never get the transplant because there are not enough donor organs to go around. After listening to her describe the heartbreak that families feel when they are told they haven’t qualified, I realized that we need to do a better job of keeping our diabetes patients from needing a kidney to begin with. One way we can do this is to make sure we are using drugs to treat their diabetes that have a positive effect. This week our first item looks at which drugs can deliver a positive effect.

Another way we can help save those kidneys is by closely monitoring factors that affect glucose readings, and this week Steve Freed sits down with Jeffrey Dachis to discuss the possibilities of using One Drop Mobile to to accomplish that.

We can make a difference!
