Testing Systems Can Upload to New Web Portal for More
Comprehensive Data and Diabetes Management

26 -- TheraSense, Inc., today announced the launch of a new
comprehensive data and diabetes management program, called the
FreeStyle CoPilot(TM) Web-Based Data Management System. Developed
with Control Diabetes, Inc. and accessed via a secure Internet
site, this program will allow analysis and communication of
glucose levels by healthcare providers and people with diabetes.
The
company expects that the FreeStyle CoPilot system will be
available to all customers in July 2002 and will be accessible
through www.therasense.com.
"Customers
have told us they want more useful ways of managing their
increasing amounts of diabetes-related data. This program enhances
the flow and accuracy of information between people with diabetes
and their healthcare providers, while still utilizing the
FreeStyle blood glucose monitoring system technology," said
Mark Lortz, president and CEO of TheraSense.
The
FreeStyle CoPilot Web-Based Data Management System provides a real
opportunity to improve care for people with diabetes by
simultaneously addressing the information management needs of
people with diabetes and their healthcare providers" said
endocrinologist Steve Edelman.
Patients
will be able to securely store their health information and upload
blood glucose readings and data from both the FreeStyle(TM) blood
glucose monitor and the new FreeStyle Tracker(TM) Diabetes
Management System, TheraSense's FreeStyle blood glucose monitoring
system combined with the HandSpring(TM) Visor(TM) personal digital
assistant.
The
information can then be transferred into personalized reports
focusing on integrated issues of diabetes care, including glycemic
control, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diet. Use of the
FreeStyle CoPilot Web-Based Data Management System will be offered
free of charge to all TheraSense customers. FreeStyle Tracker
system users can automatically upload to the FreeStyle CoPilot
web-based application via the HotSync® operation of the
HandSpring Visor PDA. FreeStyle meter users will also enjoy free
use of the FreeStyle CoPilot Web-Based Data Management System
although purchase of the FreeStyle Data Cable directly from
TheraSense is required for automatic upload of glucose data from
this meter to the FreeStyle CoPilot web-based application.
