InnoLet®

Novo Nordisk Diabetes Device Cleared by FDA

NEW YORK, Dec 17 - The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared Novo Nordisk's InnoLet prefilled insulin-delivery device, the firm said on Monday.

The product, which is slated to launch in late March, is designed to replace the vial-and-syringe method of insulin delivery for type 2 diabetics and "features a number of design innovations," according to Novo Nordisk.

"Its dosing dial, which resembles a kitchen timer, has large, easy-to-read numbers and clicks audibly at each dosing level," the company said. "The large grip and ergonomic design of InnoLet makes it easy and comfortable to hold, provide injection stability and control over injection depth, and decrease tremor or movement at the needle tip."

The device allows "accurate, fine-tuned dosing and a reversible dose mechanism allows patients to correct a misdialed dose," Novo Nordisk added. In addition, because the device does not allow the patient to program a dose larger than what remains in the reservoir, only the full prescribed amount of insulin can be delivered, the firm noted.

Novo Nordisk said it would sell InnoLet with two formulations of its Novolin premixed insulin.
