DIABETES
IN CONTROL is helping the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney
Diseases Recruit patients for this long-term study.
If you have patients who are:
- 55 to 75 years old
- Diagnosed with type 2 DIABETES
- Overweight or Obese
They may be eligible to participate in this study:
The Look
AHEAD project is the first clinical research study to look
at the long-term health effects of weight loss in men and women who are
overweight and have type 2 diabetes. The study is sponsored by the National
Institutes of Health.About 5000 people, ages 55-75, who have type 2 diabetes will participate
in 16 centers nation-wide.Patients selected will either receive a diabetes support and education
program or a long-term lifestyle change program for weight loss and weight
maintenance.
All participants will receive:
- Study-related physical exams and tests.
- Sharing of exam and test results with you and their doctor, with
the patient’s permission.
- Long-term support by doctors, counselors, and diabetes educators
who care about your health and your diabetes.
We know that weight loss has many short-term benefits, but we don't
know whether these benefits last over many years. This project will help
us understand the long-term effects of weight loss on health, especially
on heart attack and stroke.There are patient openings in the following geographic areas, to
